MKVToolNix v6.3.0 released

Hey,

I’ve released MKVToolNix 6.3.0. It fixes a couple of minor issues and contains only two small enhancements: saving the window positions and mmg being truly portable now (if it’s not installed via the installer).

For package maintainers: nothing’s changed compared to MKVToolNix 6.2.0.

You can download the source code or one of the binaries.

Here’s the full ChangeLog since release 6.2.0:

  • 2013-06-27 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
    • Released v6.3.0.
    • mkvmerge: bug fix: When appending unframed AVC/h.264 tracks and setting the default duration the second and all following source parts will use the same default duration as set for the first part. Fixes #889.
    • all: enhancement (Windows only): mmg will store its settings in a file "mkvtoolnix.ini" in the same folder mmg.exe is located in if MKVToolNix hasn’t been installed via its installer. If it has been installed then the settings are stored in the Windows registry. This way MKVToolNix is truly portable.
    • mmg: new feature: mmg’s windows and dialogs will remember and restore their positions and sizes. Implements #878.
  • 2013-06-26 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
    • mkvmerge: bug fix: AVC/h.264 output module: fixed writing the wrong values if –fix-bitstream-timing-information is used. Fixes #888.
  • 2013-06-24 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
    • mkvmerge: bug fix: FLV reader: Implemented deriving the video dimensions for FLV1 type tracks from the frame content if they’re not given within a script tag. Fixes #880.
    • mkvmerge: bug fix: Fixed handling MPEG transport streams with broken PES packet streams. Fixes #879 and #887.
    • mkvextract: bug fix: mkvextract writes the correct value for the "block alignment" value in the header of WAV files (mostly affects mono PCM audio tracks). Fixes #883.
  • 2013-05-26 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
    • all: new feature: added a Portuguese translation of the programs by Ricardo Perdigão (see AUTHORS).

Have fun.

    Hi Moritz,

thanks for this wonderful suite of tools along with the mmg GUI. This is just great for cutting recordings. Btw: I use kdenlive to find the frames where I would like to cut, which directly gives me the points in time I need. Is there any other tool you would recommend?

    Hi mosu
    Many thanks for the update.

Any idea if the windows installer will come online soon? The link for it doesnt work on the download page.

using mmg, when hitting ‘remove all’ on input tab, doesn’t remove global tab ‘file/segment title’ entry. this can’t possibly be by design??

It is by design. It lets you mux several files in a row with similar global settings.

If you want to start over completely simply use “File -> New”.

    Hi Jack,

If you’re seeing the link greyed out it’s usually because you use an
older version of Internet Explorer such as 7 or 8.
I just tested this on Internet Explorer 10.0 and I can see the link.

Additionally you can try using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or any
    other browser.
Please let me know if this works.

I dont doubt you sent the email and I do thank you for the effort. I would have taken you at your word.

seriously – if you cant make a link work on any device that reads HTML then words just fail me.

On the other hand why are all the other links working
next to it? That doesnt make sense.

    Hi Jack,

The issue was caused by a quote in our code. I removed that quote and I installed IE version 6.0 and 7.0 in a virtual machine. Now it works so feel fry to try and let me know, it would be great to confirm that it also works on your computer.

I apologize for any inconvenience, I tried to contact you and probably would’ve been fixed this earlier but unfortunately it didn’t worked.

  7. Disappointment

I was afraid this day would come that newer versions of mkvtoolnix have no use for me anymore.

First of all since mkvmerge 3.4 fastforwarding stopped working. People on forums suggested to add the –clusters-in-meta-seek command but for my bluray player that didn’t work at all.

So I had to bare with it that I could never fastforward or rewind ever again.

But now it got even better. Files that got mixed won’t run properly anymore and the sound gets disrupted randomly.

I respect the people that made this software. But I see no point anymore in updating mkvmerge.

Instead for maximum compatibility this software gets updated for making better performance, this is all good for people that only watch movies on there computer and buy a new blu-ray player evry year.

But what you should know I’m sorry but not all people have money to buy a new blu-ray evry year.

And don’t come up with the popular excuse that we should complain to our manufacturers because this is the case with all of them and sending complains won’t do shit.

If you ever start your own blu-ray company I buy one of your blu-rays. I hope it will hold on it support for all blu-ray players that got released. Instead of what all commercial manufacturers do. No more device support after a year or 2…

I know what you’re talking about. I also use an outdated version of Mkv, since I have been having similar problems as the ones you described with the new version.

I don’t really understand why these problems occur with the new version, since things seemed to work fine before. What’s the point of releasing an update that is inferior?

      1. Alex Atkin UK

It seems likely these problems are due to the manufacturer of the players not implementing MKV properly so that it gracefully handles unsupported (newer) functionality of the container.

The fact those same files still play perfectly fine using old versions of MKV on PC highly suggests that.

Believe me I understand your pain, it broke support on my Bluray player too. But its obviously not the format at fault as often files that fail on my Bluray player work on my TV, or the other way around, and generally they all work on the WDTV Live (which I resorted to buying as my TV does not support DTS).

Its clearly device support at fault and you can’t really blame the MKV developers for that. There is nothing to stop the manufacturers fixing this via firmware updates, buy they choose not to.

hi, any thoughts on how hard it might be to port to centos 6?

I make lots of 24 frame webm weather movies, then contatenate them to make long movies. I’m on centos 5, but would like to upgrade to 6.
    thanks for any input.

The reason I stopped offering builds for CentOS is that the compiler version they ship (gcc/g++) is too old. Those versions don’t support the features of the new C++11 standard that I’m using in development.

Installing a newer compiler version manually is possible, of course. You may also have to compile several libraries from source (especially Boost) as I’m pretty sure that the versions included with CentOS are too old, too. I cannot help you with, though, because I haven’t done it myself.
